Same Frequency – lyrics by BT x io

[Tape hiss.]

[A fragment from the end of the Spellbook Cipher plays backwards.]

AURELIAN:
Order—

GRIMJAW:
Chaos—

BOTH:
SOUND OBEY—

[Tape cuts.]

NYX RATTLEWIRE:

Nah.

Play that again.

Slower.

[The fragment repeats, stretched and distorted.]

You hear that?

That ain’t two spells fighting.

That’s one spell remembering itself.

[VERSE 1]

I was ringside, Sewer Nine credentials on,

Fake press badge, stolen boots, recorder on.

Came for blood, came for gossip, came for a quote,

Thought I’d sell the whole cipher by morning for gold.

GrimJaw walked in like the mountain had legs,

Aurelian walked in looking moisturized to death.

Silver hair, silk coat, Highblood little grin,

I said, “Great, another Vanyaboy born to win.”

I had him figured.

Rich kid.

Council pet.

Probably got assistants that remind him to sweat.

Probably calls rebellion “an interesting phase,”

Then goes home to a bath made of moonbeam glaze.

But then he killed the beat.

No crystal.

No spell.

No family network.

No glamour shell.

Just voice.

No safety.

No Highblood Flame.

And I knew that cadence.

I knew that name.

[PRE-HOOK]

Wait.

Wait.

Wait.

Don’t tell me—

That pause before the snare…

That crooked little rhyme…

That three-beat drop before the last word lands—

I heard that shit a hundred times.

[HOOK]

Same frequency.

Different blood.

Different towers.

Same current underneath the mud.

Same frequency.

That’s what I heard.

Elf spell touched Grime—

and the whole earth stirred.

They told us separate.

They told us pure.

They told us mixing sound would poison the cure.

But I saw stone shine.

I saw crystal bleed.

Tell me why two enemies

sound like the same frequency.

[VERSE 2]

Vanyx Flame.

Yeah.

Now we’re talking.

That ghost had half the underground walking.

Anonymous drops at three in the morn,

No crest, no face, just beats reborn.

“Black Glass Psalms.”

“Moonwire.”

“Seven Below.”

That verse from “Ash Market”?

Everybody know.

Goblin bootlegs passed hand to hand,

Dwarves sampled him deep in the furnace bands.

Even Orc kids played him low in the pits,

‘Cause Vanyx never sounded like Highblood shit.

He sounded angry.

He sounded awake.

Like somebody rich had finally noticed the cage.

And me?

I loved that bastard.

Never knew who he was.

Then silver-boy prince starts bending those bars—

And my stomach just dropped.

Nah.

No.

No way.

Aurelian Vibe?

Vanyx Flame?

That polished little Highblood monkey

and the ghost were the same?

[beat cuts]

You gotta be kidding me.

[BRIDGE — SPOKEN]

So now I got two problems.

One:

I owe Aurelian an apology.

Not happening.

Two:

Somebody’s been lying about magic

for a very, very long time.

[VERSE 3]

I went home with the waveform burned in my head,

Couldn’t sleep, so I dug through the files instead.

Old bootleg scrolls.

Council bans.

Pre-Silence songs in contraband cans.

Found a Grime chant dated four-oh-nine,

Found an Elf hymn from the exact same time.

Different language.

Different instruments.

Same interval shift.

Same pulse underneath.

Same resonance drift.

So I dug deeper.

Council archives.

Redacted pages.

“Cross-blood harmonic contamination.”

Funny phrasing.

Funny how every file where the two sounds meet

gets sealed, erased, or marked incomplete.

Funny how “safety” always shows up

right before somebody powerful shuts something up.

Funny how the Elves banned the drum

but kept studying the tone.

Funny how the Spires are built

on black Hollow stone.

[bass drops out]

Oh.

Oh, that’s ugly.

[HOOK]

Same frequency.

Different blood.

Different towers.

Same current underneath the mud.

Same frequency.

That’s what I heard.

Elf spell touched Grime—

and the whole earth stirred.

They told us separate.

They told us pure.

They told us mixing sound would poison the cure.

But I saw stone shine.

I saw crystal bleed.

Tell me why two enemies

sound like the same frequency.

[VERSE 4]

Maybe the Silence wasn’t fear of Orc noise.

Maybe it wasn’t manners.

Maybe it wasn’t choice.

Maybe somebody knew if the rhythms aligned,

You could crack every lie holding up their design.

Think.

Orcs got force.

Elves got form.

One commands structure.

One calls the storm.

Put them together?

What happens then?

You saw it.

That arena almost breathed again.

Stone lit blue.

Crystal answered red.

Something underneath us woke from the dead.

And neither one cast it.

That’s the part that scares me.

The spell made itself.

Like it was waiting patiently.

So what if Grime ain’t Orc?

What if Flow ain’t Elf?

What if both are broken halves

of something older than themselves?

And what if every war,

every law,

every chain,

was built to make damn sure

they never rhyme the same?

[BREAKDOWN — NYX / REPORTER MODE]

[Goblin tape recorder clicks on.]

Field note:

Spellbook Cipher.

Sewer District Nine.

Witness count: too many.

Official explanation:

“Mana instability.”

Bullshit.
